Bahram Qassemi, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman declared and insisted that targeting holy sites goes against the teaching of all religions. This remark came on Sunday, after a terrible attack on Cairo’s Coptic Cathedral where 25 people were killed and around 50 were severely injured.

“With this cowardly anti-Christian attack, which was launched just before the Christian New Year, the bloodthirsty and anarchistic terrorists have once again shown that terrorism knows no borders, nationalities or faiths”, declared Quassemi. The spokesman insisted that all nations and religions must be united and fight together against terrorism.

The explosion occurred on Sunday morning in St. Peter’s Church during the mass. No group or other individual claimed so far the responsibility for the blast. The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi referred to the attack as a “terrorist act” which has no place in his country.

The UNSC claimed: “all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities” in order to make those responsible to assume.
