NORTH KOREA: Developing Nuclear Warheads for Missiles?

Published On October 31, 2014 | News

North Korea now has the ability to produce a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can be mounted atop a ballistic missile and has made strides in missile launch systems that could deliver a nuclear warhead to targets as far away as the United States.

After watching closely the development of North Korea`s, analysts concluded that that the country has the ability to miniaturize nuclear warheads for its medium-range missiles, however Pyongyang does not appear to have technical capacity to conduct tests. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, the senior U.S. commander on the Korean Peninsula told reporters that he believes Pyongyang has the capabilities to build nuclear-tipped missiles, although he has no evidence to confirm his assumption. Some other analysts express their concern in this matter and told that the country was suspected for a long time for possessing that technology, and others consider that the North’s development of miniaturized nuclear devices and missile launchers are capable of evading detection.

This fact is surprising considering that to date, experts have predominantly asserted that North Korea would not master for several more years the ability to miniaturize a nuclear warhead and deliver it via missile. Media reports habitually declare that North Korean missiles cannot yet reach the United States.

The developments of miniature nukes, missiles and mobile launchers are a growing threat. This are raising concerns among U.S. military officials because  in violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, North Korea has carried out a number of nuclear tests and short ballistic missile launches and has launched a small satellite into space.

Another problem what is even more worrying is the plan for the KN-08 long-range missile, which could hit the Unites States, and advances in mobile missile launchers that are difficult to detect by satellite. For solving the problem some groups consider that United States have  to take stronger defense measures against the growing North Korean threat, but other parts said a surgical strike against North Korea is out of the question because of the risk it would plunge the region into war.
